120 inmates with petty offenses released at Eldoret GK main men prison

 120 inmates with petty offenses at the Eldoret GK main Men prison on Friday had something to smile about after they were released.

Speaking to the press at Eldoret GK Men prison Eldoret High Court Resident Judge Hellen Omondi this is a move to decongest the overstretched facility.

“We have release 12 inmates with petty offenses and with a cash bail of ten thousand and below our aim is to ensure that the prison is decongested,” said the Eldoret High Court Resident Judge.



“Today 120 inmates we will release prisoners who have petty cases and cash bail of ten thousand and below and prisoners who were fined and were not able to pay fines will also be released,” she said.

 “The Eldoret GK Men’s prison is supposed to hold 600 inmates but as I am talking it is having over 1700 prisoners,” said thee Eldoret High Court Judge.

She called on the families of the prisoners that once they are released they should show them some love since anyone can commit a mistake and be jailed no matter his or her status in the community.


 “We want to share the love, God and Christ, by showing them we have nothing against them since they are our brothers our sons, we would like to hold their hands and show them all is not lost,” she added.
