PROFESSOR George Magoha was on Friday nominated as Education CS to replace Amb Amina Mohamed who was demoted to Youths and Sports docket while the latter’s immediate former holder Rashid Echesa was fired.
Magoha’s appointment into the Education Ministry, however, did not come as a surprise to many because when President Uhuru Kenyatta was constituting his second cabinet after 2017 General election, it was widely speculated that Magoha would be appointed the Education CS.
But why does Uhuru and many Kenyans believe that Magoha is the right man at the helm of Jogoo House B?
1. UoN transformation
When Magoha became the first public servant to be competitively appointed as UoN VC in 2005, he used his 10-year reign to transform the institution that had become synonymous with student strikes into a centre of excellence.
2. Curbed exams cheating
As the chairman of Knec since 2016, Magoha had been pivotal in reforming the council that had been rocked by years of exam cheating and academic dishonesty that seemed impossible to curb.
3. Faster exams marking
Still while at Knec, Magoha brought about faster marking of exams while purchasing 415 containers to secure exam papers and curb leakages.
4. Magoha is a man of intellectual substance and proven management acumen.
Magoha headed the Commission for University Education between 2005 and 2013.
As a professional surgeon he has headed the Association of Medical Councils of Africa and the Kenya Association of Urological Surgeons.
Currently, he is the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board chairman.
