Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has ordered for the closure of all mortuaries in the county in order to control the spread of Coronavirus.
While making the announcement on Monday, the Governor confirmed that all mortuaries will remain closed for the next 30 days.
He further waived mortuary fees to encourage the locals to collect the bodies of their loved ones.
The Governor further announced that his government had set aside Sh. 110 million to help in the fight against the deadly disease.
Oparanya who is also the Council of Governors chairman further directed that all open-air markets should cease operating with immediate effect. Also affected are boda boda operators who have been asked to stop their operations immediately.
The Governor’s announcement comes just a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced some measures that the government has put in place to contain the disease.
