ELIUD KIPCHOGE NAMED SPORT’S PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR,SOYA AWARDS 2019!

The world marathon record-breaker Eliud Kipchoge has been named the 2019 Sports Personality of the year at the SOYA Awards held in Mombasa on Friday,24.Victor Ikpeba who is a Nigerian footballer was the guests of honour.The event was also graced by Sports cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed and Sports principal secretary Joe Okudo.

“I’m overwhelmed for this victory. Human beings have two legs but I have another extra leg. Sports is the only way to unite Kenyans,” said Kipchoge.

Kipchoge was up against Harambee Stars stricker Michael Olunga, World half marathon record holder Geoffrey Kamworor, 1500 m World champion Timothy Cheruiyot and 3000m World Steeplechase champion Conseslus  Kipruto.

In October 2019, Kipchoge raised the Kenyan flag after breaking the record by becoming the first person to run a marathon under 2 hours in the INEOS 1:59 challenge with the hashtag ‘No human is limited’.

“I wanted to run under two hours to and show human beings can do and lead a good life.It shows the positivity of sport.I want to make the sport an interesting sport whereby all human beings can run and together we can make this world a beautiful world,” Kipchoge said.
