The newest kid in the block of radio stations that broadcast in Kimeru language, Getu 87.6 FM, will launch this coming Monday 5, August 2019 as it had earlier been scheduled.
The new station’s launch had been put into doubt after the presenters it was banking on ahead of launch and who had widely been poached from Meru FM, rescinded their earlier decision and opted to stay with the Mediamax-owned radio station.
Nonetheless, Getu FM which is owned by Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, has sought to downplay the setback and has insisted that the launch will go on as planned.
On Saturday the station unveiled its presenters’ line-up saying it was up and ready to ‘rock Meru airwaves’. Below is the new station’s line-up as seen by MKN.
-Early morning show (4am-6am) – Aggy Gacururiga. She was fired from Weru FM/TV when she went to interview at rival station Muuga FM.
-Breakfast Show (6am-10am) – Jonah Gaicima and Nicholas Kinyua Muuna. During this time slot all top of the hour news will be presented by Muthaura Njogu who will push to up to 1pm.
Jonah Gaicima is an experienced Kimeru language broadcaster being among the pioneers of Muuga FM, later Meru FM before he became Tharaka Nithi County Director of Communications.
Kinyua Muuna on the other hand, is an accountant by profession and very vocal in matters finances with a huge online following for his unique understanding of Meru politics and Kenya at large.
-Midmorning show (10am-2pm) – Elly Joy Mwende & DJ Tim.
-Afternoon show (2pm -6pm) – Empress Natty who is coming from Thiiri FM will be rocking reggae music. On the newsdesk it will be Murangiri and Frank Kabete who will push up to 9pm.
-Evening Show (6pm -9pm) – Mutugi wa Mwirigi and Ian Merian Muchuka will steer the drive show.
-Night Show (9pm-12am) – Charity Kamanku and Mwenda wa Kanga. Charity Kamanku was also fired from Weru TV by John Marete who owns the radio station when she too went to interview at Muuga FM .
-Late Night (12am-4am) – Nonstop music.
With few hours to the launch, one can only hope that the new station will be able to cut a niche for itself in a market dominated by Meru FM and Muuga FM.
