KENYANS CAN WRITE: A List of All Time best Kenyan Authors.
Papa Hemingway once said, “there is no friend as loyal as a book.” As I’m compiling this list I’m taking great caution to ensure that I have read at least one book of these celebrated Kenyan writers. They are not just famous for penning down their lives, ideas and imaginations but also for their selfless dedication to convey their thoughts flawlessly to inspire, educate, motivate and mentor tons of people with their works. The list may not be complete and you are welcome to add some of the deserving authors to feature in this list on the comments section but below are all-time best Kenyan authors:
Born on 30th April in the Rift Valley of Kenya, Elgeyo Marakwet county Paul Kipchumba is a renown Kenyan author, entrepreneur and philanthropist. His publications which includes but not limited to, It’s up to you, Kayla: An anthropology of love poems, Turning point of my life, An alternative school of thought for Africa: My interactions with a Kenyan Diplomat B.E Kipkorir 2007-2012. He is a versatile author and a public intellectual.
NGUGI WA THIONG’O
James Ngugi Thiong’o is an award winning world-renowned Kenyan writer. His works includes novels, short stories, plays and essays ranging from literary and social criticism to children’s literature. He is best known for his novels, Weep Not Child, published in 1964, The River Between published in 1965, A Grain of Wheat in 1967 among others. Ngugi Wa Thiong’o has received tons of awards and honors and has frequently been regarded as a likely candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Born and raised up in a not so genteel upbringing in the Central region of Kenya. He denounced poverty when in the university and set out on his path to greatness. He got into entrepreneurship and wrote his first publication in his second year of study in the university titled A PATH TO GREATNESS: A Guide to Awakening the Greatness Within. His book received sensational following attributed to it’s simplicity and creativity. He adds up as a voice over artist and is currently working on a second book on financial literacy.
The award-winning Mombasa-born Moraa Gitaa is the author of a number of publications including novels such as, Shark tank and Hila. Her works also includes fiction novellas, short stories and children books such as ‘The con artiste’ to her name. Moraa Gitaa is a writer whose short stories have featured in anthropologies like Transition, Author Me Author African anthropology, The World’s Magazine- Africa Fresh! New voices from the First Continent. She also adds up as social protection, peace and conflict practitioner, and a lover of social justice and human rights issues.
After being forced to drop out of Great Lakes University of Kisumu over lack of school fees. Reinhard got inspired to become an entrepreneur and an author determined to make a lasting impact.
He has authored 5 books among them Is God broke?, Nine lives of an Entrepreneur, Wake up, walk out, You can rise Again, and The Destiny Child.
A Kenyan-born Canadian citizen Miguna Miguna is an author, politician, columnist and a revolutionary intellectual. In 2012 He launched his first memoir titled Peeling Back the Mask: A Quest for Justice in Kenya. In 2013 he launched his second memoir titled Kidneys for the King: Deforming the Status Quo in Kenya. Later in 2018 he Launched a third memoir titled TREASON: The Case Against Tyrants & Renegades. He is well known as a barrister and a staunch solicitor both in Kenya and Canada. Marked by controversy most of his books are critical of Raila Odinga and purports to expose him as a Charlatan.
