Love struck! Why KMTC CEO had to go…..

Read Time:1 Minute, 54 Second

Kenyans have been watching intrigued from the sidelines as drama continues from the Kenya Medical Training College management following claims of a major love affair interfering with operations.

What turned out as speculations is now proving to be true should the court proceeding over the sacking of CEO Prof. Michael Kiptoo is anything to go by.

On December 24th 2020 the CEO received his termination letter few weeks after receiving a show cause letter accusing him of 21 charges of misconduct.

The CEO claim before court he rubbed shoulders with the chairman Prof. Philip Maloki the wrong way, after he testified before EACC over illegal employment of one Dr. Miriam Ndunge Muthoka an employee in the institution claimed to be his lover and baby mama.

“I was required to assist EACC in their inquiry on the romantic affair between Prof Kaloki and Dr. Muthoka which is alleged to have influenced her irregular employment as corporation secretary and head of legal,” he said in affidavit.

EACC had written to the institutions board to stop the process of his removal pending the investigations that were going on but the chairman and two of the board members went ahead and terminated him on Christmas Eve and in his place Dr Kelly Oluoch  was appointed in acting capacity.

In protest the CEO went to court in January 2020 and Justice Nzioki wa Makau reinstated the CEO until the case was determined.

He claimed that the allegations against him did not make any sense while the main complainant was the chairman himself who chaired the disciplinary committee meeting that led to his job dismissal.

The court has since ruled in his favour ordering for his reinstatement with full salary and previous benefits as in his terms of employment.

Angry and concerned Kenyans have been following up the issues since last year on one of the numerous attempts to have the CEO prompting EACC to come in and investigate.

Bloggers took to social media to whistle blow the issue terming it as corruption marring operation in one of Kenya’s most important institutions.

Concerns have been raised both internally and externally with many alluding that the chairman was indirectly creating a path to make his lover who they have a child with, the CEO.
