Major win for Ruto as Uhuru, Raila “cancel” BBI

Deputy President William Ruto has won big following the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to postpone BBI meetings until further notice.

The decision was arrived at after the “handshake” duo held a crucial meeting to deliberate on the country’s preparedness to handle the Coronavirus pandemic.

In the meeting, the President and former Prime Minister agreed to channel the Sh. 11 billion budget that was meant for Building Bridges Initiative meetings across the country to the Covid-19 Emergency Fund kitty.

The decision by Raila and Uhuru may come as a major boost to the DP who has been blowing hot and cold in his support for BBI.

Dr Ruto’s political lieutenants have been alleging plot by the President and the former Premier to shortchange the DP in his quest for the country’s top seat, using BBI.

With Raila in the past insisting that a constitutional referendum will be held by June, it now remains to be seen what follows following the outbreak of Coronavirus that has brought all political activities in the country to a standstill. In the long run, Dr Ruto may be the winner.
