Congratulations to Mohammed Salah for winning African Player of year for the second year running, beating Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s top gunman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Confederation of African Football (caf) Awards ceremony in Senegal.
Other winners during the award ceremony are: Nigeria, which won the CAF Women’s Team of the Year 2018 while Mauritania won the Men’s Team of the Year 2018 and the Women’s Player of the Year went to Thembi Kgatlana from South Africa.
Earlier CAF announced that Egypt where Mohammed Salah plays will host the Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt beat South Africa after Cameroon were stripped of hosting rights because of delays in preparation.
It will be a great atmosphere for the tournament taking place where football is adored by people of the host nation (Egypt), the tournament will run from 15th June to 13th July.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars will be in the competition after a 15years absence, Stars will face Ghana in March 2019 in their final match of the qualifiers although just for formalities as they have already qualified, ahead of the continental showpiece which they last graced in 2004
Away from home, in England Tottenham Hotspurs won their first leg Carabao Cup match at home beating Chelsea by a 1-0 through a 27th minute penalty converted by Harry Kane, the return leg will be played at Stamford Bridge on the 22nd of this month.
In the other semifinal match later on tonight Premier League defending champions Manchester City will take on League one Burton Albion.
