CBK ROLLS OUT NEW CURRENCY

The Central Bank of Kenya has released new coin shillings, the event attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who in his speech said “I am extremely pleased that today we can achieve yet another milestone, launching the family of new generation coins. They honour the wishes of the people of Kenya in regard to their national currency as expressed in the constitution,”
This goes in line the promulgated constitution of 2010 that says the currency shall not hold any individual portrait, as was this coin currency had portraits of former presidents of Kenya including the founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi and the famously known 40shilling coin bearing the portrait of retired president Mwai Kibaki.
This new currencies have been embedded with images of animals:
Sh1 coin bearing the Image of a Giraffe
Sh5 coin bearing the Image of a Rhino
Sh10 coin bearing the Image of a Lion
Sh20 coin bearing the Image of an Elephant
This new currency was rolled out and will start circulation today together with the old currency coins and come with features that make them accessible even to the visually impaired people.
