POLITICIAN JOE NYAGA DIES OF COVID-19

2017 presidential aspirant and seasoned politician Joseph Nyaga is dead.

According to family sources the politician died at the age of 72 in Nairobi Hospital while receiving treatment for COVID-19.

He was the first-born son to veteran politician late Jeremiah Nyaga who was the Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament larger Embu (1958-1988) and Gachoka MP (1988-1992) before his son Norman Nyaga took over.

During his father’s leadership in government, Joe served as international banker in the US and London before joining the public service and was  later appointed as ambassador to Belgium and the European union in 1983.

He also served as the CEO of Kenya airways before he joined his family in politics.

Joe Nyaga took over after his brother Norman Nyaga went for the Kamukunji seat in 1997 where Joe vied for the seat on a KANU ticket and won, subsequently being appointed as minister for Information and Broadcasting in Moi’s Government.

He later quit the KANU Party in 2002, vied on a NARC ticket for the same Gachoka Seat and won

In 2007 general election he lost the Gachoka seat to Rev Mutava Musyimi and joined the Pentagon -5 where he vied for the same on ODM ticket but lost before getting nominated as an MP by ODM in the year 2008 -2013.

He was appointed as Co-operatives Development and Marketing minister during the power sharing Government.

Joe Nyaga stepped a notch higher in the Kenyan history when he vied for presidency in 2017 general elections as an independent candidate.

I am confident I will be the third president who will be elected on their first attempt, the first was mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the Second was mzee Moi and the third will be Joseph William Nthiga Nyaga, “he said confidently in a previous interview.

Unfortunately, he garnered 38,000 votes making him 3rd after Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga in the 2017 general elections.

He is brother to Norman Nyaga, Nahashon Nyaga and Mary Khimilu
