President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga reportedly held a crucial meeting to deliberate on the country’s way forward in the fight against Coronavirus pandemic.
According to Daily Nation, as part of the government’s plan not to be caught off guard should the Covid-19 pandemic reach unprecedented levels, the President and former Prime Minister diverted Sh. 11 billion meant for the Building Bridges Initiative meetings across the country into the Covid-19 Emergency Fund kitty.
This comes just barely a day after President Kenyatta appointed a 10-man team to mobilize funds to be used to fight Coronavirus in the country.
The East African Breweries Managing Director Jane Karuku-led team brings together the country’s top chief executive officers including Equity Bank’s James Mwangi and Safaricom chairman Michael Joseph. Others include KAM boss Phyllis Wakiaga, KCB CEO Joshua Oigara and ABSA MD Jeremy.
The decision to divert the BBI funds to the Covid-19 emergency kitty means that all BBI-related rallies are suspended, at least for now.
