On Saturday, fans and fanatics of the late Kikuyu Benga music maestro John De’Mathew gathered in Githambia, Gatanga to pay him their last respect.
One of the conspicuous attendees was President Uhuru Kenyatta who described the late legend as his greatest friend whom they had together toured the country during his last two presidential campaigns.
But as usual and expected, local leaders would cease the opportunity to ask the President for a number of things.
Political activist and former University of Nairobi Chairman Zack Kinuthia who comes from the county would, however, rubbish the requests made to the president terming them petty and misplaced.
Below is Zack Kinuthia’s Facebook post.
I have followed with a tinge of sadness, the Requests made to President Uhuru Kenyatta by Leaders in my home County, the great Fort Hall.
In particular, they have asked the President for 3 things…
1. A 3km road to be named De’mathew Road,
2. Beds for a local dispensary,
3. Studio in Kìrwara.
Let me categorically say, that I support the three projects. But it is a revelation of GREAT IGNORANCE and INCAPACITY from our elected leaders, that the 1st and the 2nd projects, being the functions of the County Government, our leaders are still begging from the President, what Governor Mwangi Wa Iria should be doing or should have done by now.
It tells that the famous Old lady from Kisumu who is known for Serikali Saidia mantra, and many leader’s thinking is at par.
When Uasin Gishu is asking for a Factory , Kitui for an Industry, Murang’a and Kiambu are asking for dispensary beds, boreholes, alcoholics rehabilitation and feeder roads.
This is a serious disaster, because without revolutionary and inspiring Thinking, even with a Gîkûyû President, it will be all in vain.
Mind is the Engine which drives all Transformation. Without the QUALITY of it, it is all in Vain.
Rest in Peace De’mathew. I know your prayers to a President, would have been Great.
Son of the Soil.
