Deputy President William Ruto
Deputy President William Ruto has once again refused to reveal his net worth. Speaking during an interview on NTV, Ruto said he doesn’t understand why the issue of wealth is always raised only when he is being interviewed.
“I am the only politician who gets asked this question. When I supported Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta I was never asked about my net worth. Are you telling me that a son of a peasant should not run for presidency?” said Ruto.
William Ruto’s wealth has for a while been a subject with some politicians especially from the opposition side daring him to publicly declare his wealth. “I have absolutely no issue. I declare my wealth every two years as required by law. When the requirement to make it public will be passed,it’s not for me to choose whether to obey the law or not. Every Kenyan will know what William Ruto owns,” said the deputy president.
He further explains his source of wealth. “I am a businessman, I work hard. I have been a public servant for close to 25 years, I have been deputy president for 8 years now. Give me some credit.”
The deputy president has also denied claims that his relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta is over. Ruto has downplayed the existence of a rift between him and the president and says he is only married to Racheal.
“I have heard many stories and read many headlines. The marriage, bromance and love has died. My friend, Uhuru Kenyatta is married to Margaret , I am married to Racheal. There is no marriage business here. We were elected by the people of Kenya to do a job,Uhuru as the president and me as the assistant,” said a sarcastic Ruto.
He also said that he if there is anyone who has shown loyalty to the president then should be him. Ruto said that he never gave Uhuru a condition when he supported him.He further says that Uhuru Kenyatta will support the Jubilee candidate and so will he(Ruto) even if he will not be the candidate.
