TESTIMONY: How prostitutes robbed me in a pub ahead of Valentine’s Day

LAST year a time like this Samuel Muigai (not his real name) a mechanic based at Thika’s Engen area, was getting himself ready ahead of Valentine’s Day.

Muigai convinced that he was almost prepared in all aspects for the big day, he decided to visit a notorious brothel-based at Thika town centre that also doubles up as a bar, to take two for the road before retiring home.

However, what Muigai did not know was that this seemingly harmless decision would cost him dearly to an extent that all his plans to take his lover for Valentine would be cut short at the joint by a group of marauding sex workers.

“I had only gone at the joint to take two bottles and go back to my rented house in Kiganjo Estate ahead of 9pm news. But after taking my first bottle while chatting with three sex workers who were sitting across the table, I do not know what happened,” says Muigai.

He adds that he only woke up to find himself alone at the wee hours of the following day with nothing apart from an ‘inflated’ bill that a nagging bartender was very quick to remind him to settle before stepping out of the bar.

“Despite noticing that the bill was highly inflated, I had no problem with it since I knew I had close to Sh20,000 in my M-Pesa account.”

“I begged her for patience to allow the day to clear so that I could go out and replace my line after which I would settle the bill. But I was dumbstruck after realizing that even what I had on my M-Pesa was also gone,” he recalls painfully.

Muigai says that how he transferred the money to one of the three sex workers as he came to learn later, to date, still remains a mystery to him.

He reported the matter to Thika Police Station but no assistance was forthcoming till he gave up.

The heavily-built mechanic, nevertheless, says that the officers at the station informed him that many revellers had reported earlier similar cases but they were yet to apprehend any culprit over the same since after committing the crime the offenders leave the town for some time till they are sure that the complainants have given up on them.

“I am sure that these criminals are once again on the loose and many unsuspecting revellers will fall victims. If you must go to any joint within Thika that is frequented by sex workers, just carry along a trusted friend or else you will suffer the same fate. I thought by depositing my money on my mobile, I would be safe. I was very wrong,” Muigai advises.

So, as you plan big time ahead of this Valentine’s Day, remember there are crooks elsewhere busy planning on how to dismember you financially.

Take care, Satan and his whole entourage are probably waiting for you on the other end.
