For quite some time now, Tharaka Nithi Senator Prof. Kithure Kindiki who is also the Senate Deputy Speaker, has been under the water leading to speculations that he could be up to something.
This state of affairs has been precipitated by the fact that in the run-up to 2017 General Elections, Kindiki and the current Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki were close allies until they fell out after the elections for what is believed to have been as a result of a deal gone sour.
As such, political pundits from the area believe that Kindiki could be out to ‘revenge’ on Njuki come 2022 for going against the grain and betraying their presumed ‘deal’ ahead of 2017. And this is how the pundits predict this ‘revenge’ that ought to teach Njuki a lesson, will play out.
Tharaka Nithi is comprised of three constituencies namely; Chuka/Igambang’ombe, Maara and Tharaka. From each of these three individual constituencies, a number of candidates have already come out to declare their bid for the top county positions.
For instance, former Governor Samuel Ragwa who hails from Maara is said to be eyeing for the senatorial seat with his closest competitor who also hails from the same constituency, being MP Kareke Mbiuki.
But it is in the gubernatorial race where Kindiki is believed to be eyeing where the battle of the titans is expected to ‘bloody’.
Chuka/Igambang’ombe constituency is rumoured to have three candidates who include Prof. Erastus Njoka the current VC Chuka University, Gitari Mbiuki, and the incumbent governor. Charity begins at home. These three must first prove to the rest of the county that they have goodwill at home before they can convince other voters from other parts of the county.
This leaves Prof Kindiki as the sole candidate coming from Tharaka which means if he opts to vie for the gubernatorial seat, his political arithmetics will be pretty simple. But of course, this is if his bid to become DP William Ruto’s running mate boomerangs.
