Apart from the constant physical safety worries that parents have to deal with when living with their children near a major roadway, studies have shown that kids who live near a major roadway at birth have a lower IQ (both verbal and non-verbal).

They also tend to have lower motor visual abilities than their counterparts who live far from highways.

Sandi Ha, a lead author in this study from the University of California has said that living close to highways is associated with high air pollution which can cause serious developmental problems due to exposure to green house gasses produced by car particles.

What remains unanswered, however, is the link between the pollutants and developmentall delays and thus more research is needed to unveil that.
