Why Moi University’s next week graduation might be halted

Moi University graduation set for 22nd August 2019 could be halted if qualified students missing in the graduation list makes good their threat to go to court to have the much awaited event suspended till their names are included in the list.

Speaking to Magical Kenya News after a meeting with the Dean School of Education Prof Changach, students from this faculty blame Changach for “messing us up”.

“Today we met the Dean School of Education and he could not explain himself as to why some students were missing on the graduation list. He submitted 300 names and later requested to add more 800 names which was flatly rejected by the University Senate,” one student who spoke to MKN on Monday evening after the meeting says.

Another student says: “If Prof Changach compiled and submitted the list by 17th July 2019, majority of us could have graduated. Now we are being told to wait until December which is unacceptable to the whole lot of us who had met all the requisite conditions for graduation on time but the administration failed us. Are we to blame for somebody else’s failure?”

In the video taken during the Monday meeting and which we have in our posssession, Prof Changach can be seen throwing hands on the air while speaking incoherently as students pose hard questions to him demanding to know why they are not in the graduation list.

This Wednesday morning the irate students have vowed to seek audience with VC Isaac Kosgey to get better explanation after the dean failed to convince them an inch.

“It’s going down in Moi University tomorrow morning 0800hrs as students will be staging a peaceful demonstration. We want the VC to expound why so many students who have full marks and have cleared fees have not been included in the graduation list,” another student said.

If the meeting with the VC fails to yield results, the students say, they will move to court to halt the whole graduation ceremony.
