Why Yattani has been picked for Treasury docket

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday announced the appointment of Labour CS Ukur Yattani as the acting Treasury Cabinet Secretary in what came as a surprise appointment to replace officials charged over the Sh63 billion dam scandal.

Yattani, an economist by training is a former governor of Marsabit County and his appointment, according to the Nation, extends the trend where economists have been preferred for the hot docket.

President Kenyatta also appears to have gone for Yattani, who has the least political fallout within the Jubilee administration that has seen deterioration of relationship between the allies of the president and his deputy, the Nation adds.

Yattani will be tasked with stabilizing the treasury docket that has been shaky following the arrest and arraignment of Treasury CS Henry Rotich and his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge.
