WrestleMania 36 moved due to coronavirus outbreak


The largest event of the year for wrestling fans all over the world remains to be WWE WrestleMania with the 36th event happening on April 5. The corona scare that has led to nearly every other sports league cancelled or postponed events in response to the outbreak saw the much awaited humbled to a training facility.

Tampa Bay area will not host the event as scheduled according to WWE announcement on Monday but will go on in front of no fans from the company’s training facility in Orlando.

“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.” read the statement.

Other events have also been shifted to the training facility in Orlando in the midst of the outbreak that includes Smackdown Live, Raw and next where only essential personnel were present. WrestleMania is WWE’s and has been held annually since 1985 and is nearly week-long extravaganza.

The WWE Hall of Fame Induction also scheduled to take place in the Tampa Bay area will not take place and that further details would be shared as they became available.

WrestleMania 35 that was held in New York/New Jersey area April 2019 brought $165 million to the company. In 1991, WrestleMania VII that was to be held in Los Angeles Coliseum was moved to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena as the country was in the midst of the Gulf War.

One of the wrestler Sasha Banks shared her disappointment promising not to fail the fans who will be watching from home. “It breaks my heart to know that fans won’t be able to attend #WrestleMania. They aren’t just there to watch the show, they’re a part of it! But priority #1 is everyone’s health. So on April 5th we will do our very best to put on a show worthy of our fans. Its what you deserve”, Banks shared on her twitter handle.
